Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Professorship of Global Markets & Firms.

On these pages, we invite you to learn more about what we are doing regarding research, teaching and knowledge transfer.

Below, you can find more information about our ongoing research on SME investments in Africa as well as on J-CUB – The Start-Up Support Program at Jacobs University.

German “Mittelstand” in Africa

For German SMEs (the “Mittelstand”), African countries are mostly untapped markets. Yet, doing business in Africa is a challenge for SMEs. We seek to identify success factors for collaborations with local, African companies. Local networks help to overcome institutional and market obstacles for investors and can benefit from close business ties with European partners in return. This project runs in close collaboration with the GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH).

J-CUB Start-Up Support

Start-Ups at Jacobs University! Jacobs University’s students are creative, forward thinking and driven. These qualities combined with a very concentrated know how and an international student body result in an unparalleled start-up potential on our campus in Bremen. Our J-CUB option taps into this talent by supporting students to develop their business initiative from idea to market launch. We welcome students from all degrees and all study programs (BA, MA and PhD) who are curious and want to explore and develop a start-up.

Meet our 2020 students’ ventures here:
